Fanfin Anglerfish

This hand painted cover begins the very attractive and unusual set of five for the Deep Sea Creatures issue. There are a few points of interest about this group of cachets that I would like to discuss.

If you have seen these stamps firsthand, you already know how unique they are. The colorful creatures are shown against a black background with a very bright and vivid strip running across the top of each stamp. I chose to coordinate my cachets with the stamps, and the unusual and interesting creatures will be shown against black. The text will be the same bright color as the one used in the corresponding stamp. I can tell you that this set will be a real eye-catcher.

The five creatures in their normal habitat can usually be found between 300 and 3000 feet. I did use rock or coral formations and other fish species on some to add visual interest, and the various components of the cachet may or may not share the same depth ranges in real life. Also, as I did on my previous lighthouse covers, in some cases, the main subject in my cachet is different than the subject on the stamp. In this case, for example, I show an anglerfish but not a fanfin. The text on my covers refers to the stamp. As with my lighthouse sets, on this issue, I chose to present cachets that would have the most visual impact for present and future Collins collectors.

The bottom line is that you will not want to miss adding these five covers to your collection. In the years to come, they will be actively sought by those in our hobby because their design and individual hand painting will make them a "must own" set. I'm pleased to present the first creature of the deep sea - the Fanfin Anglerfish. Item #C3301 - $12.25.
