This single stamp portrays the swift pace of a summer track event. The Postal Service chose this design because they considered it "representative" of summer athletic activities and competitions. I believe that, although it was not stated, another reason for the stamp being issued in 2000 was that it was an Olympic year. During the summer months, time trials and races were being held to determine which athletes would represent the United States in Australia.

My hand painted cachet features a hurdles event, and the runners speed across the entire cover as they sprint and leap their way to the finish line. The front runner jumps straight at you as he clears the last hurdle on his way to victory. Summer Sports. Item #J3201 - $12.25.
