Sports-related First Day Covers are always of interest to a large collector segment within our hobby. Although these four "Youth Team Sports" FDCs obviously do not have the collectibility potential of such items as my "Baseball Legends" set, the special Mark McGwire, and Cal Ripkin, Jr. cachets, I did or the several classic baseball covers (Robinson, Ruth, Clemente, Gehrig, etc.) produced during the early Collins years, these youth covers certainly will have an important place in your collection. With baseball, football, basketball, and soccer all being represented, the individual subjects will be "must have" items for the strict topicalist as well as the general sports collector. Most importantly, future Collins enthusiasts will want this four sport set in their collections. As is the case with all of my covers, securing this combination basketball, baseball, football and soccer set now before it becomes sold out of my stock will prove to be a good acquisition.

The final cover to be offered is for the fast-paced sport of basketball. A young girl dribbles the ball protecting it from an opposing player with her body. Her eyes are searching for the basket. The defender is just as intent upon stopping the scoring threat. Her eyes are on the ball, but also more importantly upon the opposing players' hips, for despite any head or arm fakes, whatever way the hips go, the body must follow. At the same time, the defender's left arm looks to flick the ball away, if possible, and her body blocks the path toward the basket. It is the classic "one-on-one" match-up. Hand painting of the cachet in watercolors brings this encounter by two youthful competitors vividly to life.
