Distinguished Americans
U. S. Senitor Claude Pepper
Collins Cover Announcement
CLAUDE PEPPER
Pepper was elected to the United States Senate in 1936 and served in that body until 1951. After a twelve-year absence from the federal government, he was chosen by Florida voters as their congressman and served in the House of Representatives from 1963 until his death on May 30, 1989. Throughout his long career in Congress, Claude Pepper was the undisputed champion for elderly citizens.
My hand painted cachet features a portrait of the senator amid a map of the state that he served. Many collectors enjoy statehood issues, and this bold representation of Florida in vivid watercolors makes it an attractive addition to any collection. From the sailboats on sparkling waters to the citrus fruits of the interior to the dolphins and flamingoes of Miami, the different aspects of the Sunshine State are well represented. Royal palm trees and a Florida state flag provide additional touches to this attractive cachet.
This new stamp was canceled on September 7, 2000 - the 100th Birthday Anniversary of Claude Pepper. Item #Z3201 - $12.25.
