Spring 2017 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 19 W3201 — Exploring the Solar System

A superb pentagon-shaped sheet containing five different $1.00 pentagon-shaped Space stamps. A spectacular Collins! This colorful high-value cover has a hand painted cachet featuring Saturn. Each of the one-dollar stamps in the very unusual and extremely attractive pent gonal sheet is tied to the cover with the Anaheim, California first day of issue postmark.

Lot 23 W3201 — Exploring the Solar System 7-11-00

The story of this Space Topical gem is the pentagon-shaped sheet that contains five multi-colored high-value one-dollar pentagon-shaped stamps. A black background on the sheet really makes the bright colors pop. Three bullseye first day of issue postmarks on June 11, 2000 tie each of the five stamps to the envelope. The hand painted cachet features Saturn with its familiar ring.

Lot 21 W3201 — Exploring the Solar System — First Ever Five-Sided U.S. Stamps — 7-11-00

The story of this Space topical gem is the beautiful combination of colors and shapes set against a black background that really make the bright colors pop. The overall sheet as well as the individual stamps each have a five-sided pentagonal outline. I designed the envelope to accommodate the unique shape of the sheet of colorful $1.00 high-value stamps, the three bullseye first day cancels, and the hand-painted cachet depicting Saturn with its familiar rings, and part of the solar system. This is a very eye-catching and different first day cover.
