STAMPIN’ THE FUTURE
Space Theme Children's Art
For those of you who have read my 1997 book — Collins FDCs The First Twenty Years — you briefly met my grandson Sc ott and his sister Selena. (Since then Becky and John have become the parents of Emma and Alexandra, so the grandchildren tally is currently four.) From his early years, Scott always enjoyed being in my office with me, and, as I packaged shipments, he would put them in the bin when I said "Ship it out." In my book, I even ponder the future when I state that Scott might be the first of a new generation of Collins cachetmakers. Whether that prophecy comes true, only time will tell, but I just could not pass up the opportunity to let Scott get a taste of the magic of doing two First Day Cover designs for the four Stampin' The Future space FDCs.
First Cachets by Scott A. Collins
The four new stamps were designed by Zachary Canter, age 10, of Hawaii; Morgan Hill, age 10, of New Jersey; Sara Lipsey, age 12, of Tennessee; and Ashley Young, age 12, of Utah. Even when the stamps were issued in July of 2000, I knew that I would like to have Scott do the cachet designs, but, as this 2001 offer date indicates, I had to wait until his artistic ability expanded a bit with age. Thus, at six years old, I'm proud to present (along with X3202 next time) the "first cachet" of Scott Alexander Collins. The artwork is entirely his own, and when it is painted, it really is quite good in complementing the kid artwork in the stamps. Also, as a "first cachet," this cover (and its counterpart) will be very actively sought by collectors who seek first cachets. Also, space topicalists will need to secure them also.
Linda and I are so happy that Scott now has his very own contributions to the "Collins story." — Stampin' the Future with space themes kid artwork. Collins #X3201 $12.50.
