Wildlife of the Homeland

For the last Kwanzaa stamp, I did a cachet that featured Africa including wildlife. It was so well received by collectors that I decided to enhance this approach by depicting a family of lions. On the grassy Savanna, a proud male watches over his mate and offspring. The female nuzzles her cub in a show of affection.

The use of watercolors is particularly effective on this cachet. The lions themselves are very realistic with coats of tawny tan coloring. The grassy environment adds a true sense of the wild, and the blazing sky at the horizon is awesome. You will love this year's tribute to Africa, and I'm pleased to present the 2001 Kwanzaa issue.
