Dramatic and bold best describes the first day covers for these two high-value stamps that were released on the same day 23 years ago. Collins Express Mail and Priority Mail covers are always eagerly anticipated and well received, and these covers were no exception. The images on the large stamps are dynamic and very attractive. The Washington Monument is silhouetted against a blazing dawn, and the rising sun casts a golden mirror image in the Reflection Pool on the 12.25 Express Mail stamp. A beautiful blue evening sky provides the setting for the illuminated Capitol Dome on the 3.50 Priority Mail stamp. The bold approach that I took with the cachet designs, and the unusual angle of the views were well received. This is the first time these covers have been offered in one of my sales.
