Carnivorous Plants

Yellow Trumpet

Cover Announcement

This flowering trap is long and tubular. It flares outward at the end, like a trumpet - thus its name. Scented nectar ringing the flared end entices insects to land and investigate. As it feeds, a narcotic-like substance in the nectar dulls the insect's awareness. As it moves around  enjoying the sweet nectar, a very slippery surface just below the rim of the pitcher causes the insect to fall in.

The tapered narrowness of the yellow trumpet impedes the use of the insect's wings. AIso, the tube has downward-pointing hairs that help the prey's descent but preveat it from climbing out. At the bottom, the insect splashes into a pool of water and digestive enzymes, and the fate of the prey is sealrd.

Four of the distinctiwe trumpet-shaped plants are displayed in my hand painted cachet. They are surrouaded by a leafy border. For your collection - the nectar-enticing yellow trumpet. Collins #R3404 - $12.25
