Twenty-Three-Cent Rate Change Issue

On January 6, 1759, George Washington married Martha Dandridge Custis, a wealthy young widow. They were to have no children of their own but raised Martha's two children from her previous marriage. The years after their wedding proved to be the most peaceful of George's life. The French and Indian Wars were over, and the American Revolution would not begin until the mid-1770s. During the 1760s, Washington farmed tobacco and served in the House of Burgesses, which was the elected chamber of the Virginia Colonial Legislature.

My hand painted cachet depicts the wedding ceremony done in the Colonial period's artistic style. The watercolors bring warmth and a living sense of history to the scene. I'm pleased to present George Washington as he marries the First-Lady-To-Be, Martha Custis. Collins #T3401 - $12.50
