Antique Toys
Mail Wagon and Taxicab
This series of antique toys has caught the fancy of collectors, and I'm pleased to continue my Collins hand painted cachets for the taxicab and mail wagon non-denominated stamps. Vintage cars are always very popular with collectors, so you can be sure that my taxicab (the first one I've ever done) from bygone days will prove to be a good one to own. To complement the mail wagon, I've depicted an old express delivery truck toy. The authentic colors of both the truck and taxi are used, and you will be amazed at how attractive they are. This set of four (these two plus the Mickey Mouse handcar and horse-drawn steam fire engine) are excellent examples of how individually hand painted cachets stand head and shoulders above mass produced printed ones.
In doing research for these stamps, I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the vast variety of antique toys that were manufactured in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Instinctively, I knew that these Collins covers would spark the interest of present and future collectors. Accordingly, I'm happy to share the news with you that I will also do a series of four cachets for the denominated version of the stamps.
The subjects will be groups of antique toys that depart from those already used. For example, I'm almost done with my "airship" cachet, and included in the grouping is a large Graf Zeppelin (as well as a hot air balloon and early airplane). It's destined to become a Collins classic. The next group I'll be working on is antique toy ships and boats. When all is said and done, there will be a total of eight antique toy Collins First Day Covers, and you will definitely be happy to have them in your collection.
