John James Audubon
Scarlet and Louisiana Tanagers, by John James Audubon
Collins Cover Announcement
John James Audubon
This hand painted First Day Cover is a delightful tribute to American artist and naturalist John James Audubon. He is most famous for his early illustrations of birds in the wild, and his sleek portrayal style became world famous. The new stamp shows the scarlet tanager and the western tanager, and these are the two beautiful birds that I have depicted in my watercolor cachet.
The scarlet is a flaming red with black wings and tail. The western is a bright yellow with black wings and tail, white wing bars, and a distinctive crimson red face. In autumn and winter the red disappears, but in spring and summer the crimson face once _again becomes prominent. I show these two handsome tanagers against a blue/green background, and it actually is a stunning cachet. It's a great cover for anyone who loves nature and our native American songbirds.
I'm pleased to offer my John James Audubon FDC. Collins #U3501 — $12.25.
