Arctic Tundra

Gyrfalcon

Collins Cover Announcement

ARCTIC TUNDRA

Gyrfalcon

The new stamp on this cover depicts a gyrfalcon soaring high above the tundra with mighty mountains and blue sky in the background. This is truly the wide viita domain of this great bird of prey. To contrast the flying falcon on the stamp, I decided to do a close-up of the head in great detail. The markings are indeed beautifill, and the hand painted watercolors bring a life-like appearance to the cachet art. Captured are realistic features such as shape of the notched bill, alertness of the roving eye, and layered texture of the head and neck feathers. This noble bird is shown against a swirling cloud backdrop. I'm pleased to present the next addition to the Arctic Tundra wildlife series. Gyrfalcon — Collins # N3701 — $12.25
