The A3901 depicted Wayne as a Marine from the movie Sands of Iwo Jima. This cover (A3902), done just for subscribers with no extras available, shows John as a Western sheriff in my Legends of Hollywood series. It's a very scarce Collins and seldom appears for sale.

Nicknamed "The Duke," John Wayne was an American actor who became a popular icon through his starring roles in films which were produced during Hollywood's Golden Age, especially in Western and war movies. Starting with 1939's classic film Stagecoach and followed by the Cavalry versus Native American films of the 1940s in which he starred, Wayne was a natural to portray heroic figures of the Wild West. More often than not, he would be cast in the role of a lawman, and in this cachet, he wears the badge of a sheriff.
