Summer 2024 Mail Sale Commentary 

Lot 33 F3901 — Kwanzaa — Giraffe Cachet — 10-16-04

To contribute to the celebration of Kwanzaa, I produce watercolor renditions of prominent wildlife species of the African homeland. The lovable giraffes on this one have long necks for high grazing as well as a pair of short horns which are soft at first and covered with skin and hair but eventually become smooth and hard with age. The young giraffe shown in the foreground has this early stage of horn growth. Since U.S. stamps don't often depict non-native animals, I'm happy that this series has given me the opportunity to present some of the beautiful wildlife species of the African homeland on my Kwanzaa first day covers.
