American Choreographers
George Balanchine
Cover Announcement
George Balanchine founded the School of American Ballet in 1935 and the New York City Ballet in 1948. He is considered to be "The Father of American Ballet" having created more than 400 different ballets. He built his various works on his stated premise that, "The important thing in ballet is movement itself - just as it is sound which is important in a symphony. " He felt that the "visual spectacle" was the primary element of any performance. The new stamp shows three ballerinas with their backs turned, so for my hand painted cachet, I decided to do a trio of dancers facing forward. In beautiful pastels, they truly project the ballet art form to which Balanchine devoted his life.
I am pleased to present the first two choreographers in this mini-set of four. Alvin Ailey (K3802) and George Balanchine (K3804) at $12.25 each.
