Cover Announcement
In 2003 when the Golden Eagle designs were first introduced, I did a set of five cachets called the "Spirit of America." Collector reaction was fantastic. ln 2004, the same eagle design had another First Day of Issue, and the year is printed on each stamp in the lower left margin. I wanted to equal or surpass my effort for the Spirit cachets, so I created a five-cover set honoring five of the greatest athletes America has ever known. A few sets remain, and I am offering them now to current Collins collectors until they are sold out. Once that happens, the open market will establish their value, so do consider acquiring them now.
The five athletes are each highly collectible in their own right. Baseball's legendary Babe Ruth known as the Sultan of Swat. The incomparable golfer Bobby Jones. (Baseball and golf are such hot cover collectibles that down the road you'll see each of these covers become sought-after gems by specialists.) The most versatile American woman ever to compete in sports - Babe Didrikson. A true American hero who confounded and embarrassed Adolf Hitler by winning four medals in the German Olympics - track star Jesse Owens. And the greatest race horse that ever lived - the magnificent Secretariat.
