Rock Around the Clock
Elvis Presley Cachet for American Clock Issue
When Christy, Scott and I attended the last American First Day Cover Society Convention in Cleveland, we were able to visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on the lakefront. It's a multi-storied, modern facility just bursting with exhibits that trace the origins of Rock and Roll up to the present time. It was well worth seeing, and, if you're ever in the area, consider spending some time there.
Deciding which artist to honor on the hand painted cachet didn't take much time. Whether you liked him or not, there is no dispute that Elvis remains "The King" of his era. In our philatelic hobby, the stamp issued for him remains, by far, the best selling of all time. And, my cachets for that issue sold out quickly and now command hefty prices on the open market. My point is that Elvis-related material will always be in demand, so don't miss having this Collins First Day Cover in your collection.
To meet the first class rate, I placed four of the new 100 stamps across the top right of the envelope. The First Day of Issue slogan cancellation from Independence, Ohio (a Cleveland suburb and site of the AFDCS Convention) ties them to the cover. To the left is Elvis with mike in hand as spotlights cast their beams behind him. To the lower right is the Hall of Fame as it is viewed from the lake looking toward shore. The hand painting in watercolors of each cachet is sure to make this one a most desirable collectible. I'm pleased to present a cover that will always remind me of the great time shared by Christy. Scott and myself — one that goes back in time to the days of Elvis Presley and the generation that "Rocked Around the Clock." Collins #B4201 — $13.75.
