Holiday Snowflakes

One Horse Open Sleigh

This cover continues my mini-set for the four different snowflake covers. The subject gave me the chance to consider many options for the cachet themes, and I finally decided on the "old-fashioned winters" approach with a combination Currier & Ives/Norman Rockwell style in mind. To my way or thinking, Americana watercolors will always be in fashion with current and future collectors.

For this one, I present a sleek horse racing through a moonlit, snow-blanketed rural countryside. Behind is drawn a snug, two-person open sleigh. The couple is bundled in a thick lap robe to keep warm. Heavy clothing offers further protection from the elements, including the lady's hand muff and the gentleman's scarf that flies in the wind. Other subtle features of the cachet are the sleigh bells on the horse, the smoke coming from the cozy cottage, and the hazy clouds drifting in front of the large full moon that gives this winter's night theme a true wonderland appearance. This is the second snowflake cover with two more to follow in a hand painted set that is sure to please. One Horse Open Sleigh — Collins #F4201 — $13.25.
