Holiday Snowflakes

Yuletide Carolers and Toboggan Adventure

The final two covers for this mini-set of four are now ready, and I must say that this group of Christmas covers exceeded my expectations. The goal was to go back to the turn of the last century and capture outdoor activities that would convey the joy and happiness of the holiday season. Previously offered were "The Village Skating Pond" and "One-Horse Open Sleigh."

A grandma in her night bonnet and shawl peers out the window of her cozy home and enjoys the seasonal songs by three carolers. You can tell from the facial expressions of all that everyone is in the spirit of Christmas. The second cover depicts a young brother and sister gliding down a snowy hill on their toboggan. The family pup romps alongside. The girl smiles in enjoyment of the ride, but the young boy has a look of consternation as he knows that only by shifting their body weight can they steer the fast-moving sled. You can be sure that the ride will end successfiffly and that the young pair and their dog will soon be trudging back up the hill for another winter adventure.

Period clothing and realistic winter scenes make all four of these snowflake covers very appealing. When I announced the first one, I said that I hoped to fashion the set in a Currier & Ives/Norman Rockwell type style. I'm pleased with the results and hope that you will enjoy them. The individual hand painting brings the robust holiday scenes to life, and they certainly are representative of an oldfashioned Christmas of yesteryear.

Yuletide Carolers — Collins #F4202; and Toboggan Adventure — Collins #F4204 at $13.25 each.
