To continue with this series, now ready is a cover that shows a book character that was very popular in the Collins household as our children had their bedtime stories — that Hungry Caterpillar. in turn, each of our five kids would delight in seeing more and more holes appear in succeeding pages as that voracious insect would "devour" bigger chunks of the book as the story progressed. It was, and remains, one of those magical and unforgettable childhood classics.

Three things make this hand painted cover a standout. First, the design of the large, bold stamp is very crisp and wonderfully colorful. Second, the piétorial day of issue cancellation that I secured for this series really adds to the visual and philatelic appeal. And last, but certainly not least, the bold individually watercolored cachet shows a real caterpillar extended on a green leaf and a fluttering swallowtail butterfly nearby.
