Romantic Couples of the World

Love Wedding Stamps

As has been my practice with Love stamps the past few years, I am pleased to continue my Romantic Couples of the World (real and fictional) cachet series. For this two-stamp issue (390 and 630), I am going to revisit the early days of television. It will be my honor to pay tribute to two television husband and wife teams who entertained America making millions laugh weekly as they conducted their small screen marital escapades in living rooms from coast to coast.

"Lucy and _Ricky Ricardo"

Lavender - 39c

On Monday nights, America would tune in to the hilarious antics of Lucy as she played the goodnatured, well-intentioned and comedic air-headed wife of band leader husband Ricky Ricardo. Each episode would find Lucy, usually in the company of neighbor and friend Ethel Mertz, engaged in a slightly bizarre and very, funny escapade. Invariably, Ricky would become involved in the misadventure along with his friend and Ethel's husband Fred Mertz. The show was a smash hit for many years, and America did indeed love Lucy.
