This is the 12th stamp to be issued in this wonderful series. The new stamp shows a publicity photo that Judy had taken for the 1954 motion picture "A Star is Born. " Garland was nominated by the Academy Awards for Best Actress in recognition of her role in this film. Since I have paid tribute to her performance in "The Wizard of Oz" in several previous cachets, I decided this time to base the cachet on the same film as the stamp. Judy Garland's show business credentials are spectacular. She appeared in 32 movies, including the classic in which a girl from Kansas named Dorothy traveled to the fantasy Land of Oz. She was an accomplished singer who made a dozen albums and almost 100 singles and who sang on hundreds of radio broadcasts. As a dancer, she partnered with many leading men of her era including Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. She starred in her own television show and appeared as a guest on numerous others. Her live appearances were always sold out successes. She was indeed an entertainment superstar.

My hand painted cachet shows Judy in her leading role in the 1954 film. The First Day postmark is a true beauty. It ties the new stamp to the envelope and features a great rendition of her signature. The watercolors, all painted by hand on each and every cachet, make this Collins a special addition to the Legends of Hollywood series. When Judy was born as Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, a star was indeed born.
