Ethan Allen

Collins Cover Announcement

American Flag - Coil

41¢ - Denominated

Ethan Allen was a Revolutionary War leader who commanded a group of patriots known as the "Green Mountain Boys." They were instrumental in founding the Republic of Vermont, and in 1775 they were among the first to join the Continental forces against the British. The outspoken Allen, who had fought with the Colonial forces in the French and Indian War, led a raid to capture the British stronghold of Fort Ticonderoga. With the element of surprise, the Green Mountain Boys captured the fort and seized many cannon and a huge store of powder. Those guns were transported to Boston where they enabled the American forces to break the stalemate of that besieged city. Because of Ethan Allen's successful raid against Fort Ticonderoga, the English military was forced to evacuate Boston in March of 1776.

My hand painted cachet shows the strong-willed Vermonter ready for battle. It also shows the flag of the Green Mountain Boys and the rolling hills and mountains that were their namesake. For this new coil flag stamp issue, I'm happy to honor one of the legendary patriots of our War for Independence. Ethan Allen— Collins #04301. $13.25.
