Collins Cover Announcement 

AMERICAN ELK

Due to the subject_ matter and the _attractiveness of the 42-cent American elk printed envelope, I decided to add this issue to my 2008 list of Collins cachets. Only rarely do I produce a cover for Postal Service printed stamps. The large green forest on the stamp with the silhouetted bull elk in the foreground is lovely, and Frp very happy I decided to do it. Wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted with this watercolored First Day Cover.

The individually hand painted cachet shows a wary elk buck as it pauses to drink from a mountain lake. An evergreen forest and a lush alpine meadow bring a sense of wilderness to the scene. In nearby shallow water reeds, a Western grebe swims silently witnessing the momentary stop of the majestic elk. As a final touch, a hint of a reflection appears on the surface of the tranquil lake.
