Julia de Burgos - Poet
Collins Cover Announcement
Julia de Burgos
Julia is considered by many to be the greatest poet born in Puerto Rico and one of the finest in all of Latin America. From an early age, she developed a love for nature. In her very first work "Rio Grande de Loiza" she writes, "My childhood was a poem in the river, and a river in the poem of my first dreams".
The individually hand painted cachet for this First Day Cover is amazing, and I'm confident it will be the finest created by any cachetmaker. The nature that Julia loved so much surrounds a portrait of the young and beautiful writer. A Puerto Rican coqui frog, the national mascot, sits on a broad leaf at lower left. To the right, a Puerto Rican tody flycatcher perches on a branch and displays its colorful plumage. The gulf fritillary butterfly spreads its wings to the upper left, and the magnificent Puerto Rican hibiscus is in full bloom at the upper right. And, as a backdrop, I've added the almost dream-like flowing waters of the cherished river that Julia-writes of in her first work. This is an extremely high
quality First Day Cover, and I know you will enjoy having it in your collection.
I'm pleased to offer this cachet as a tribute to Puerto Rico's celebrated poet Julia de Burgos. Collins #B4801 — $14.00.
