Arleigh Burke

Admiral Burke distinguished himself during World War II and the Korean War. He served as Chief of Operations during the Eisenhower administration and was known as "31-Knot Burke."

In World War II, he served in the South Pacific where he commanded four separate destroyer divisions. During the Korean War, he was assigned to the Naval Forces, Far East where he commanded a cruiser division. Burke was awarded many citations including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the Navy Cross, the Purple Heart, and many others.
