During my early boyhood, I was a big fan of cowboy movies and television stars. Tex Ritter and the Lone Ranger. Gene Autry and Wild Bill Hickock. But Roy Rogers was "King of the Cowboys." I remember him riding after the outlaws on his Palomino horse Trigger. Often with him would be cowgirl and wife Dale Evans on Buttermilk with their dog Bullet tagging along.

This "05" cachet is a subscriber-only variety and, as such, is a scarce cover that is rarely seen. The hand painted rendition is a close-up of Trigger in his fancy bridle and saddle. A pair of lucky horseshoes remind me of the show's closing song, sung by Dale and Roy.
