This cachet (along with Gene Autry's famous horse Champion which will be forthcoming soon) will complete the "Cowboys of the Silver Screen" series of Collins covers. As my long-time subscribers know, each year I do several cachets exclusively for them with no extras being available. This creates

highly collectible Collins cachets. I do make them available occasionally in my mail sales to establish an approximate open-market value for them.

Trigger was a golden palomino horse made famous in Western movies with his owner Roy Rogers. Originally this horse was named Golden Cloud- and was the mount of Olivia de Havilland as Maid Marian in the 1938 movie "The Adventures of Robin Hood " At the time, Roy was about to make his first movie, and he was immediately attracted to the beautiful stallion. He bought Golden Cloud and renamed him Trigger. The intelligent palomino ultimately had an incredible 150 trick cues.

During the 1940s and 1950s, Trigger appeared in many movies with his famous cowboy owner. In the hit television series, Roy and Trigger were joined by Dale Evans and her buckskin quarter-horse named Buttermilk. It is accurate to say that Trigger became the most famous horse in American film entertainment. Lot 31 N4705 — Trigger — Roy Rogers' Horse — 4/17/10

During my early boyhood, I was a big fan of cowboy movies and television stars. Tex Ritter and the Lone Ranger. Gene Autry and Wild Bill Hickock. But Roy Rogers was "King of the Cowboys." I remember him riding after the outlaws on his Palomino horse Trigger. Often with him would be cowgirl and wife Dale Evans on Buttermilk with their dog Bullet tagging along.

This "05" cachet is a subscriber-only variety and, as such, is a scarce cover that is rarely seen. The hand painted rendition is a close-up of Trigger in his fancy bridle and saddle. A pair of lucky horseshoes remind me of the show's closing song, sung by Dale and Roy.

Lot 36 N4705 and N4706 — Horses of Cowboys of the Silver Screen plus 2 FREE covers — 4/17/10

A small series of stamps were issued to honor several cowboys of the Silver Screen era. In addition to producing covers for the well-known cowboys, Fred decided to produce two subscriber-only covers highlighting their horses.

N4705 shows a wonderful close-up of Trigger, a golden palomino made famous in Western movies with his owner Roy Rogers. During the 1940s and 1950s, Trigger appeared in many western movies as well as a hit television series where he was joined by Dale Evans and her buckskin quarter-horse named Buttermilk. It's accurate to say that Trigger became the most famous horse in American film entertainment. The extremely attractive Trigger cachet shows a close-up of the famous horse which has a Roy Rogers stamp canceled at Oklahoma City. He is standing in front of Roy's Double R Bar Ranch.

N4706 shows Champion, the horse that belonged to Gene Autry, and the eye-catching cover pictures a wonderful close-up of the famous horse in front of a western town set that was built on Gene's Melody Ranch. This beautiful chestnut was Autry's mount in 44 movies and in over 100 episodes of the Gene Autry television show. This was also a scarce subscriber-only, limited-edition cover. The Gene Autry stamp appears in the upper left and is canceled in Oklahoma City. The two sold-out Horse covers are accompanied by two FREE covers — Gene Autry (N4703) and Roy Rogers (N4704)
