Collins Cover Announcement
Negro Leagues Baseball
Satchel Paige
Baseball has always been an extremely popular topic for cover enthusiasts, and these vivid and welldesigned stamps are destined to be widely collected. You can be sure that Collins cachets on First Day Covers for this issue will always be actively sought on the open market. Collins, Baseball, Black Heritage, Sports, and Americana collectors will all be looking to acquire them, so now is the time to obtain them. To start, I am offering my cover with the Rube Foster stamp (the "Father of Negro Leagues Baseball"), and in the near future, I'll be announcing my cachet with the action stamp with a base runner sliding into home plate.
This cover features the most famous of all league players — the ageless Satchel Paige. This extraordinary right-handed pitcher started playing in 1926. He played for a number of teams, and his longest stint was with the Kansas City Monarchs from 1940 to 1947. It is in their Negro Leagues uniform that he is portrayed on my cachet. On July 9, 1948 he made his Major League debut with the Cleveland Indians. He then went to the St. Louis Browns, and while with them made the 1952 and 1953 Major League All-Star Games. His last Major League appearance was with the Kansas City Athletics on September 25, 1965, and he played his last professional game on June 21, 1966 for the Minor League Peninsula Grays.
My hand watercolored cachet features a life-like portrait of this truly great American ball player. Surrounding him are some of the logos of the old Negro Leagues Baseball teams. A Collins aver not to be missed for the incomparable Leroy Robert Paige. For "Satchel." Collins #V4702 — $14.00.
