3 Finger Salute

As my long-time subscribers know, each year I do several cachets that are produced only for them. Extras are not available, and these very limited covers become extremely desirable items.

For this hand painted cachet, I decided to do a rendition of a Scout that could represent the movement of the past century. During the previous hundred-plus years, millions of young people have shared in adventure, personal development, skill building, and community service. The Scout in this cachet proudly wears the uniform and gives the Scout sign of three extended fingers. Horizontal red lines representing the flag and Scout emblems provide the background. A gray shadow effect behind the Scout complements the gray silhouette on the stamp.

I wanted this final Collins cover for the 100th Anniversary Scout stamp to be a no-frills cachet. That is what resulted, and I'm pleased to offer this "look you straight in the eye" rendition of an American Scout. Collins #X4703.

Spring 2020 Mail Sale Commentary

(Lot 31 X4703 — Scouting — Boy Scout with Flag (7-27-10)

This was the "Subscriber only" cachet variety of this stamp, and it is the first time it's appearing in my sales. The hand painted cachet shows a Boy Scout giving the three-finger Scout sign in front of an American flag. As an active Scout from ages 11 to 17, those six years were a one hundred percent positive experience in my life. The watercolored cachet fully captures the subject.
