The canvasback, which forages beneath the water's surface for seeds, leaves, and tubers of aquatic plants, is one of the largest diving ducks in North America. A beautiful rust-red head and neck are the main identifying features of the drake. The forehead slopes into the large blue-black bill giving this magnificent waterfowl a distinctive wedge-shaped profile to the head. The breast and tail feathers are jet black, and in between there is a whitish gray back that gives this far-ranging duck its name.

The 2014 Collins Duck will again have the large, pictorial first day of issue postmark that is especially created just for this issue. My individually watercolored waterfowl covers have won far more prestigious Planty Awards than any other cachetmaker, including first place plaques for the past several years.
