Hudson River School
Sunset by Frederic Edwin Church
Collins Cover Announcement
Hudson River School
Frederic Edwin Church
Church was an American landscape painter best known for large panoramas often depicting sunsets. He usually had a preponderance of sky with an emphasis on light. The technical skill of luminism is an innovation of the Hudson River School. His individually hand painted cachet captures Church's style by showing a sweeping expanse-of sky, a bold combination of light (luminism)- and color, and a natural panoramic setting.
Frederic was the only pupil of Thomas Cole. He liked to introduce low horizon lines and, in addition to sunsets, enjoyed painting waterfalls and mountains. Throughout his work, particular attention is accorded to the grand scale of nature, and I demonstrate this by his style shown on the cachet. During his career he focused on scenes that contained rich reds, purples, and oranges to give depth and a sense of richness to his work.
After the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City exhibited his work in 1995, Americans began to consider this Hudson River School artist the "Michelangelo of Landscape Art."
Frederic Edwin Church is now ready. Collins #V5303 at $15.00.
