Ingrid Bergman

"Casablanca"

Cover Announcement

Ingrid was an award-winning Swedish actress who starred in American films. She is best remembered for her role

in "Casablanca" opposite leading man Humphrey Bogart. Set during World War II, the plot involves an American

expatriate (Bogart) who must choose between the woman (Bergman) he loves and helping her Czech resistance

leader husband escape the city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Nazis.

Other stars included Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre and Dooley Wilson as Sam, the nightclub

pianist in "Rick's Cafe American." The individually hand painted cachet shows Bergman, Bogart and Dooley in a

scene at the cafe. The film won three Academy Awards including Best Picture. Its lead characters, memorable lines and pervasive theme song have all become iconic.

Ingrid Bergman won three Academy Awards, two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award

for Best Actress. According to the "St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture" Bergman became "the ideal of American womanhood" and a contender for Hollywood's greatest leading actress. Producer David O. Selzrick once called her "the most completely conscientious actress" he had ever worked with.
