Tulips are multi-colored florwers that bloom in the spring and grow from bulbs. Plants can reach a maximum height of about 28 inches, and a single stem supports one flower. Tulips have few leaves - typically two to six. The blooms come in a wide variety of colors except pure blue.

For this hand painted cachet, I decided on a single flower to capture the delicate beauty of the tulip. Its petals unfurl across the center of the envelope with a rich combination of texture and color. A solitary moth ascends the long stem adding a bit of interest to the watercolor illustration.
