Abraham Lincoln

The 16th President

Cover Announcement

Abraham Lincoln continues to be ranked as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all United States presidents. It is indeed fitting that it is his classic stamp and individually hand painted cachet that bring this distinctive mini-set of six to its conclusion. It has been very gratifying to me that this set has generated such positive feedback from Collins collectors, and I think this demonstrates that we all share a sense of gratitude for the wonderful country that these forefathers forged for us. And that we appreciate the historical significance of these leaders as shown on the stamps and cachets of our shared hobby. It is a certainty that, once I am sold out of these six covers, they will be actively sought by future Collins and topical collectors. So if you still need any or all of them, don't delay.

Lincoln was a prairie lawyer who grew up on the western frontier in Kentucky and lndiana. Almost completely self educated, he served in the Illinois House of Representatives for eight years. "Honest Abe" was elected president of the United States and served from March 1861 until he was assassinated in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through our Civil War and preserved the  Union, set the stage for the abolition of slavery, strengthened the federal government, and worked to improve the national economy. As with George Washington, he was the right man at the right time.

As the set comes to completion, please take a moment to reflect on the six new stamps. Each is a recreation of a classic U.S. stamp and as such really tends to make these Collins First Day Covers something special and out of the ordinary. My detailed and extremely ornate hand painted frame on each of the cachets is in the artistic style of when these patriors lived, and it unequivocally bonds the six covers as one superb set. Finally, the portraits capture the likenesses ol these great Americans as only hand painting can, and they demonstrate once again the artistic craftsmanship of Collins cachets.

Now ready is Abraham Lincoln - the boy from the western frontier who would become our 16th and perhaps greatest

president. Coiiins #V5506 - $15.00.
