Dragons
Green Dragon & Castle
Cover Announcement
A dragon is a large serpent-like legendary creature that appears in the folklore of many cultures around the world. They have been depicted with and without horns, wings, and the capacity to breathe fire. Most often, they have four legs. They are widely described as having above average intelligence.
In August Linda and I traveled to Columbus, Ohio for the four-day American Philatelic Society (APS) Show. There on August 9th, the four new dragon stamps had their first day of issue. A very large "castle" had been built in the middle of the show floor to serve as a back-drop for the ceremonies which were impressive. It was an extremely busy and well attended show, and many existing and new Collins collectors stopped by to visit and look through our boxes.
The first dragon in the set has emerged from its cave and is breathing a large flame of fire into the morning air. In the
background, a castle from the Middle Ages is visible. The four new stamps are quite colorful, and each cachet is individually hand painted. Also. I'm very happy to tell you that all of the four dragons have their own "look" and are in different settings. It's a beautiful set, and I am eagerly anticipating entering it in this year's cachetmaker contest.
The other three will be announced in the coming weeks, but the set starts now with this menacing dragon emerging from his cave. Don't miss this four-cover set. Fire-Breathing Dragon is now ready. Collins #C5801 at $15.00.
