Winter Berries

 Juniper Berry

Cover Announcement

Mink are dark-colored semiaquatic, carnivorous mammals. Its fur is highly prized for the exceptional quality, and appearance, and it is used in clothing, mainly coats. Mink oil is used in medical products and cosmetics.

Mink prey on fish and other aquatic life. They live near water and are seldom found far from riverbanks, lakes. ponds, streams, or marshes. Mink have long and narrow territories near water and food sources which they defend vigorously. The hand painted cachet shows a mink bounding over ice-covered rocks into a winter stream.

The juniper berry is the seed cone from trees of the same name. Although not a true berry, it appears as such resulting in the name. The cachet shows a cluster amid the needles of the juniper tree, and the colors of mature berries range from shades of purple to blue.

The Juniper Berry and the Fur Bearing Mink first day cover is now available. Collins #E5901 at $16.50.
