Winter Berries

Soapberry

Cover Announcement

Soapberry is the common name for a plant in the sapinous genus. It is found in both Europe and the Americas, and

the berries contain a natural low-sudsing detergent called saponin. There is also a plant called Canada buffaloberry

native to Norlh America known as "soapberry." This shrub bears edible berries that are bitter to the taste. In my hand painted cachet, the berries are illustrated at lowr right.

River otters are extremely playfuI both in the water and on land. One of their favorite antics in the winter months is sliding on snow and ice. In this cachet the frisky critter is doing a belly whopper down a snow-covered slope into an open water stream. The warm glow of the sky indicates that this is an early morning outing.

This cover completes the four cover mini-set. I don't think many cachetmakers did individual cachets for these four stamps, and I highly recommend that you secure the set for your collection. The playful otter with winter berry is now available. Collins #E5904 at $16.50.
