Frogs
Squirrel Tree Frog
Cover Announcement
This small species is usually green but can be light brown or yellow with brown blotching. Only about 1 1/2 inches in length, the diminutive individual in my cachet sits stealthily on a leaf. With insects being a very important part of their diet, this one is very focused on its next meal. The natural "look" of this encounter is captured by the blend of watercolors and is an excellent example of the realistic quality of Coilins cachets.
A very dangerous period awaits newborn squirrel tree frogs. As tadpoles, they may be eaten by dragonflies, giant water bugs, fish, and salamanders. Once they achieve their permanent form of frogs, these tiny creatures become the prey of small mammals, snakes, birds, and larger frogs. As for their own diet, their mainstays are insects. ants, crickets. and spiders. Their range is the southeastern United States from Virginia to the Florida Kevs and west to Texas.
My second cover in this interesting mini-set of four is now ready. The Squirrel Tree Frog - Collins #X5804 at $16.50.
