The Redhead Duck is a beautiful waterfowl. The male has a chestnut-reddish head that appears as a true red in sunlight. Their chests and tail feathers are black and bodies a grayish brown. Females are pale brown with a gray-brown body. Both males and females have distinctive bluish bills. Habitat is U.S. and Canadian prairie lakes in summer as far west as British Columbia and coastal waters, marshes, and lakes in winter. Both plant and animal food is obtained by diving and dabbling during morning and evening hours. The Redhead has a round head and large sloping forehead.
