1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
Cover Announcement
From model years 1970 to 1974, the first-generation Dodge Challenger Pony Car was built using the Chrysler E platform in hardtop and convertible body styles. The Challenger was built to compete in the upper end Pony Car market. It had a long wheelbase, large dimensions, and a luxurious interior. Air conditioning and a rear window defroster were optional. This car was aimed at young, affluent buyers.
The performance model in 1970 was the Challenger R/T, and that is the car shown in my hand painted cachet. It had a magnum V8 engine rated at 335 horsepower. Standard transmission was a 3-speed manual. The instrument cluster
on the dashboard included a 150 MPH speedometer.
For the vignette on this cachel, I chose the Vietnam War. As most of you know I was in Danang in 1962, and I was honored to serve as we were bringing stability to a population caught between a harsh dictatorship and a Viet Cong Communist insurgency. At that time, it was impossible to imagine the escalatlcn and devastation that awaited. By 1970 the war was raging, and I just thoughi it was the most historical event to show on this cover.
Now available is the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T with Vietnam vignette. Collins # M6102 at $18.50.
