Northern Cardinal

A vintage wagon wheel found by the farmer in a little used storage area has been propped up against a tree. In days past, wagons and horse-drawn farm machinery were of prime importance. Now the antique wheel stands in quiet tribute to yesterday. A pair of northern cardinals perch on the snow-laden hub and spokes in search of seeds from nearby winter flowers. The distinctive birds will stay in the area for the remainder of the cold season. The solitary wheel will creak and strain and roll no more but will age in place as a tangible teasure celebrating the years of yore. A beautiful meadow beyond rests in its dormant stage waiting for the warm breath of spring to awaken it.
