This endearing hand painted cachet shows a mother rat and her offspring enjoying a New Years' meal from a lovely bowl. The new stamp is an illustration of a rat mask and has a bullseye first day of issue postmark from Monterey Park, California.

The rat is the first of the repeating 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese Zodiac. A visually pleasing and very effective line border achieves a great presentation for the winsome rats and the painted blossoms on the delicate Chinese bowl. My "Year of the Rat" is now ready.
