40th Anniversaly Collins Inaugttral Cover

Starting in 1981 with the election of Ronald Reagan, Collins has been offering Inauguration covers to mark the election or re-election of each new president. It is the longest run of such individually hand painted cachets in the history of the hobby. It is with a sense of satisfaction to know that these covers exist and leave a clear record of presidential succession in the Oval Office.

The subject of this one is President Joseph R. Biden. Born on November 20,1942, he is the 46th person to hold the office of President of the United States of America. Biden is the oldest president, the first to have a female vice president, and the first from the state of Delaware. Joe was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was elected to the U.S. Senate from Delaware in 1972 at the age of 29.

The cachet depicts both Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden. For a more visual impact, I placed the U.S. flag stamp about one-third down the envelope so that the slogan Inauguration Day postmark is centered between the top of the cover and the text at the lower right.
