1990 SOUTH DAKOTA

This stamp was scheduled to go on sale the first business day of January 1991. I discovered, however, that they were to be put on sale in December which makes it a "1990 MILFORD". Due to the surprise release, I unfortunately did not have the "State Bird Stamp" for South Dakota on hand so this MITLFORD is unique as it is the only first year MTLFORD without the State Bird Stamp.

Serial numbers used are 301 thru 635 which is a nice feature of the cover. The quality of the postmark is one of the poorest of the year but was beyond my control. The date of issue was December 13th. It is very hard to make out.

A village of Plains Indians sits beside a broad river in the hand-painted cachet. A safe distance from shore, the solitary pintail swims by the cluster of teepees and camp activity.
