American Trees

Sequoia, White Pine, White Oak, Gray Birch

Winter 2021 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 7 P101 — American Trees

For "unofficial cancelation" buffs, this one has a nice story. The stamp came out on Columbus Day, and post offices nationwide were closed. I discovered that the Pine Bluff Post Office (nice name connection to issue) was a 24-hour regional facility where mail is processed even on holidays, so after getting a plate number pair canceled at the official city — Hot Springs, Arkansas, it was off to Pine Bluff. As a result, mine may be a Collins exclusive with the only unofficials that exist. The hand painted cachet shows the cones of the white pine and giant sequoia, the leaf and acorns of the white oak, and the leaves of the gray birch. A wonderful -early- Collins with a great philatelic significance in the Pine Bluff postmark.
