Lot 4 H202, H203, H204, and H205 — Summer Olympics — 9/28/79

This is a set for the committed Collins collector and has a lot of background going for it. On page 32 of my book, you can read about how this first day cover trip was almost doomed to failure when my charter plane was all set to go but no pilot was available. Nerve-wracking! And this was to be the second leg of my trip from Los Angeles to Moscow, Idaho for exclusive first day postmarks obtained only by Collins. 1980 was the year President Jimmy Carter decided to boycott the Olympics in Russia, but with careful planning and a little good luck, I did make it to Idaho, and my covers have truly beautiful magenta with killer bars Moscow postmarks. The events depicted include hurdles, diving, rowing, and equestrian. Each cover has a single postmark in Los Angeles and an additional single canceled exclusively at Moscow, Idaho. 148 sets exist.
