Lot 4 J202 — Christmas Santa Claus — (10-18-79)

This was my second Christmas as a cachetmaker, and the new Santa stamp was issued in North Pole, Alaska. Only 71 were produced with this wonderful magenta postmark with killer bars at the location of Santa's workshop. My hand painted cachet captures the season's spirit showing a toy train, a gingerbread cookie, a bell ornament, a drum, and a star Christmas cookie. A sprig of holly and a stuffed bear peeking out of a stocking complete the cachet. An additional stamp was then added to the envelope, and it was taken to Fairbanks for an additional somewhat unusual day of issue postmark.

Interest in Collins Christmas covers has been increasing in the last few years. This is a scarce one and was created at the North Pole!
