Robert F. Kennedy

U. S. Attorney General

Summer 2024 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 3 S102 — Robert F. Kennedy — 1-12-79

This is a magnificent Collins hand-painted variety with first day of issue postmarks from two of the most prominent post office stations in Washington, D.C. At the lower right, a single has the red magenta double bullseye cancel from "Station 22" which is the official U.S. Capitol postmark. While there, I also requested that the official United States Capitol rubber stamp cachet picturing the building's famous dome be applied to each envelope. This was done, adding a wonderful touch of "day of issue provenance" to each of these Collins first day covers. Then, after adding an additional plate number single to the upper right, I took the sixty-two covers to the Smithsonian Postal Statiomat the National  Museum-of Historrand-obtained-a superb-first day of issue pictorial postmark. It's an extremely scarce Collins.
