Year of the Child

Children

Fred's Anecdotal Note

International Year of the Child

The cachet has six children in colorful native dress from around the world standing on a globe. It is hand painted in watercolors using 17 different colors. The detail is so fine that much of it must be painted under a magnifying glass. The stamp is hand canceled "First Day of Issue" in Philadelpia, the offical city. A second stamp is hand canceled in New York City, site of the United Nations headquarters, providing a related unoffical cancel. Item # U101

Lot 4 U101 — International Year of the Child — 2/15/79

This lovely cachet shows six children of the world in native costume standing on a globe. Shown are boys from China, Alaska, the Middle East, and Pennsylvania. The two girls are from Holland and the mountains of South America. It is hand painted in 17 different colors and is a real beauty. There is the official Philadelphia postmark and a large, clear bullseye unofficial cancel from New York City — home of the United Nations. This is one of the very best of my Classic Period early cachetsi
